The Master of Environmental Planning program aims to deepen and broaden the abilities of students in the field of environmental planning on advanced level. A sound knowledge of planning and/or environmental issues is a key precondition for applying. Special emphasis is given to foster the students’ capability to develop scientific-based solutions for current and future environmental challenges in different working contexts, such as academics, public administrations, environmental NGOs, think tanks or planning offices.

The outstanding expertise of our faculty with differing foci on environmental planning - landscape planning,  environmental assessment and policy, geoinformation processing, landscape economics and governance, nature conservation  – allow students to engage in the intellectual, policy, and practice aspects of environmental planning.

Through an interdisciplinary program of teaching and research, as well as varied cooperation with public and private actors, we impart the means and knowledge which qualify excellent environmental planners.

We are able to provide a unique study environment which benefits from the exceptional choice of higher education institutions, the multitude of research and development facilities in the region, and the fact that the city of Berlin is the political, cultural, and academic hub of Germany.
The master program addresses students who have gained sufficient knowledge in at least three of the following fields during their bachelor's program:

  • Environmental/ Landscape Planning
  • Environmental Assessment (e.g. SEA, EIA, impact mitigation, and Habitats Regulation Assessment)
  • Other Spatial Planning, such as Spatial, Urban and Regional Planning, Transport Planning, and Landscape Architecture
  • Nature Conservation
  • Ecology
  • GIS and Remote Sensing
  • Environmental Economics
  • Environmental and Nature Protection Policy

Students Orientation Days & Teaching in the winter term 2020/2021

The Student Orientation Days for new students of the masters program Environmental Planning are set to take place from 26th to 28th of October. The event will be held digitally via Zoom. All information for the event will be made available on a separate area of our website. All students who have been admitted to the Master's program and have accepted their admission will receive an email with a link to this separate website where you will find the program of the event, links to all Zoom meetings and additional information for a start in your studies here at TU Berlin. We will use the website to keep you up to date on everything concerning your studies, so pay the site a visit from time to time to see if new information are available.

As in the last semester, the world is still dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic. TU Berlin has issued advices for teaching in the coming winter term which are heavily based on hybrid teaching concept. The concept is to provide in-person teaching at the university only when it is necessary and in all other cases to continue teaching using digital formats. We follow these recommendations by hosting our Student Orientation Days as well as most of our regular courses digitally, using Zoom for meetings and additional material for self studies at home. Especially courses for students of the first semester of MEP will not be taught in person at the university but will be made available online, mostly using our student information system ISIS. Questions regarding the teaching formats from first semester students can be answered during the Student Orientation Days. If there are further questions regarding teaching during the pandemic, please contact the study advisory service for answers or guidance towards where to find your required information.
